📰 News we're reading

1. Man Charged After Alleged Privacy Violation at Bloomington Hotel (limitless-news.com) — A 31-year-old man is facing a gross misdemeanor charge after Bloomington police say he secretly recorded women at a hotel on Normandale Boulevard early Sunday. Security staff reported suspicious cellphone behavior, police seized his phone under a warrant, and investigators are now reviewing potential evidence while the defendant remains presumed innocent.

2. Police Investigate Report of Possible Shooting Following Alleged Drug Deal in Bloomington (limitless-news.com) — Bloomington police and fire crews rushed to the 1400 block of 82nd Street East Monday after reports of gunfire possibly tied to an alleged drug deal, but found no shooting victims. Neighbors described hearing shots and seeing suspected drug activity, while officers say the investigation is ongoing and have not confirmed whether any shots were actually fired or arrests made.

3. Some vets upset over cost to get name on future Veterans Memorial in Bloomington (kstp.com) — Bloomington veterans are debating a $350 fee to have their names inscribed on a new Veterans Memorial planned for Harrison Park, with some calling the cost unfair. The nonprofit Bloomington Remembers Veterans says the fee helps fund construction and waives costs for those missing, killed, or held as prisoners of war, while the local American Legion is stepping in to help vets who can't afford it.

4. Fake website calls out reality of 'ghost student' problem at Minnesota colleges (kstp.com) — Normandale Community College in Bloomington is battling a surge of fraudulent "ghost student" applications, with roughly a third of recent applications flagged as suspicious. After one Chicago man discovered his identity was used to secure federal aid, he built a parody website to highlight security gaps, while Normandale and Minnesota State roll out new technology and funding to tighten identity checks.
