Eagan Chase Ends With Backpack Flung Off Cedar Ave. Bridge: Cops

Video shows a Bloomington firefighter retrieving the backpack from the Minnesota River after it was thrown during the pursuit, police said.

EAGAN, MN – Two people are accused of littering and drug crimes after they led Eagan police on a pursuit across the south metro Sunday that ended on the Cedar Avenue Bridge.

At 10:30 p.m. an Eagan officer investigated an occupied car near Cliff and Slater Road. Police said the driver had a revoked license and a felony arrest warrant for drugs.

When the officer tried to stop the car, it fled at "a high rate of speed," according to authorities.

The car traveled north on Cedar Avenue where it reached speeds of 120 MPH, police said.

While on the Cedar Avenue Bridge, one of the car's occupants threw a backpack out the car’s window where it went over the side of the bridge and into the Minnesota River, investigators said.

The car eventually stopped and the driver and passenger were taken into custody.

With the help of the Bloomington Fire Department, authorities retrieved the backpack after a firefighter repelled over the side of the bridge.

The backpack contained a felony-level amount of marijuana as well as associated drug paraphernalia, police said.

The car's occupants were charged with drug possession, fleeing in a motor vehicle, and littering.
