Eagan Crash Kills St. Thomas Engineer Student From Apple Valley

"My best friend Jill tragically lost her son, Anthony Campins, last night in a motorcycle accident."

EAGAN, MN — A 21-year-old mechanical engineering student at St. Thomas died Saturday evening in a motorcycle-car collision in Eagan. Anthony Campins was riding on Highway 13 near Shawnee Road just after 10 p.m. when the crash happened.

Campins would have been 22 on June 27.

"My best friend Jill tragically lost her son, Anthony Campins, last night in a motorcycle accident," reads the GoFundMe page created for his family.

"Anthony was passionate about motorcycles and was refurbishing an old 1972 Honda. He was on a path to great success."

Authorities say a Honda Accord — driven by Corbin Mackenzie Fonville, 25, of Roseau — was traveling southbound in the left lane of Highway 13 and made a lane change at Shawnee Road.

Campins' Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling southbound at "a high rate of speed" when it changed into the same lane as the Honda, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The vehicles collided and the motorcycle went into the guardrail. Campins died at the scene.
