The suspect said "of course" he wasn't going to hit the valet with the crowbar because it "would have killed him."

An Eagan man charged a hotel valet with a crowbar after becoming enraged, according to police. Paul David Buol, 53, was charged with making terroristic threats in an incident that took place in downtown St. Paul Sunday night.

The Pioneer Press reported Buol told police he was “guilty as hell” of threatening the valet, but didn’t intend to harm the man, according to the complaint. The 37-year-old valet helping a customer outside the Hyatt Hotel in downtown St. Paul Sunday night when Buol allegedly drove by at about 40 mph, honking his horn and driving through a red light at Sibley Street.

Buol drove by a second time and the valet “slapped the back of the car” as it passed, according to the complaint, at which point Buol turned around again and drove toward the valet, stopping within a foot of him.

Buol then got out holding a crowbar above his head as though planning to use it to hit the valet, according to the charges. In fear, the valet grabbed Buol and pulled him toward a wall of the hotel.

Buol said that “of course” he wasn’t going to hit the valet with the crowbar because it “would have killed him.” However, Buol said the victim should not have touched his car and “beat the hell out of” him, according to the charges.
