Hummel is legally barred from being at the house, police said.
There were fresh shoeprints on the side door, the lock on the door appeared to have been smashed in, and blankets hung over all of the windows of the residence, according to investigators.
Hummel was alone in the house, the criminal complaint said. The person who called 911 gave police a key and permission to enter the house, according to investigators.
Police tried to enter, but the damaged locks prevented them from using the key, according to the criminal complaint.
Police then set a perimeter around the residence and began negotiating Hummel’s exit, according to authorities. At about 2:30 p.m, police heard a single gunshot coming from inside the house, according to the criminal complaint.
During the negotiations, Hummel did exit the residence several times, but each time he immediately re-entered the residence again, authorities said.
At about 9:30 p.m., Hummel left the residence and was taken into custody by officers, according to the criminal complaint.
Police then searched the house and found a 9mm handgun, which belonged to the person who called 911, according to authorities.
