Suicidal, Armed Woman On Highway In Eagan Taken Into Custody: Police

One woman was taken into custody by Eagan police Wednesday evening following an hours-long standoff on a highway.

On March 8 at 3:31 p.m., Eagan officers received a report of a suicidal woman inside a home in the 4600 block of Tamie Avenue in Eagan.

The 911 caller stated the woman was attempting to harm herself by inhaling carbon monoxide while inside the garage. It was also reported she pointed a gun towards her mouth.

Prior to police arriving, the woman left the home in a car and crashed near the intersection of Cliff Road and Minnesota Highway 3 in Eagan.

When police arrived, they encountered the woman inside the car and saw she possessed a handgun. The woman appeared to be uninjured and refused officer’s commands to leave the vehicle, according to a news release.

Because the woman was armed and suicidal, for precautionary measures, traffic was rerouted around the Highway 3 and the Cliff Road intersection.

Eagan officers negotiated with the woman. After three hours, she threw a handgun from the car and later got out where she was taken into custody without incident.

Afterwards, she was transported to Fairview Riverside in Minneapolis for an evaluation.

No one was injured, according to police. The incident ended at about 7:15 p.m., when the roads were reopened.
