Married Couple On Nightly Walk Killed In Eagan Hit-And-Run: Cops

A 36-year-old suspect at the AmericInn Hotel in Apple Valley was taken into custody, police said.

EAGAN, MN — Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash in Eagan that left a married couple dead in a parking lot Thursday. On June 28 at 9:50 p.m., Eagan officers responded to the 2900 block of Silver Bell Road on the report of a car-pedestrian collision.

When officers arrived, they found two victims in the parking lot of a business on the west side of 2020 Silver Bell Road. They were transported to Regions Hospital, where they were declared dead.

The driver of the suspect vehicle fled the area before officers arrived, according to authorities.

Witnesses at the scene provided a description of the suspect vehicle. At about 11 p.m. it was located at a nearby business, La Fonda De Los Lobos on Highway 13 in Eagan, police said.

Eagan officers later located a suspect at the AmericInn Hotel in Apple Valley. A 36-year-old male was taken into custody just after 5 a.m. and is currently being held at the Eagan Police Department.

At this time, there does not appear to be any additional suspects in the crash, police said.

Police said the victims are a 74-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman who were out on their regular nightly walk in that area.

This is still an active and ongoing investigation. The names of the deceased will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiners Officer.

The Minnesota State Patrol will be assisting in the investigation and will conduct a crash reconstruction.
