Quite a flurry of activity on the last filing day. The situation stayed fluid and changed by the hour. We can piece together the underlying motivations, but to post it here would be peddling rumors. All are welcome, and as far as I know, all are qualified and capable. Should be a good race.
We are in the more enjoyable phase of the campaign—planning, conceptualizing, brainstorming. More fun than all that actual fundraising and door knocking. Just spent the evening with one of my advisors, Uncle Dave, who I will just refer to as "The Vizier." Had dinner and spent some quality time roughing out the lit pieces and mailer strategy. He's an old hand at this from the next suburb over, so that's a relief.
Next is our kitchen cabinet kickoff. All the necessary folks are lined up, from Treasurer on down, so we're going to treat them to a nice dinner out on the deck next week while we strategize for the mailings, lawn signs, and our big fundraiser in Sep/Oct. I've had some experience doing this for other local politicians, but need to distinguish my event from theirs. I was thinking of a "Pirate Dining" format that I read about in the New York Times a while back. Apparently, the foodies out on the East Coast have tired of high end restaurants and are now holding impromptu, invite only, clandestine dinners in unusual venues. That iconic Edina watertower might have some real potential.... ; )
