Edina Women’s Huddle Helps MN CD3 Challengers Launch Their Congressional Campaigns

Group hosting a series of community events to explore candidates' platforms and priorities

Following the Women’s March in January, a pair of friends registered to host a women’s huddle. To their delight, dozens of women expressed interest in attending the initial meeting. The group, who now call themselves Warren Women for their regular meeting location on Warren Avenue in Edina, has continued to meet monthly to discuss a variety of political topics including women’s health, voting rights, and community engagement.

Members of the huddle expressed significant interest in the coming election to determine the next representative for Minnesota’s 3rd congressional district, currently represented by Republican Erik Paulsen. The organizer’s decided to reach out to the four Democrat congressional challengers with an invitation to join a meeting and share their platform with the members. To maximize attendance and make the most of each candidate’s time commitment, the duo decided to open their monthly meeting up to the community.

The group hosted their first event, Meet Dean Phillips, on August 14, 2017 at Normandale Park in Edina. The event was attended by more than 50 members of the community who engaged in an open question and answer session with the candidate. In addition to sharing his position on a wide variety of political topics, Dean and his staff also shared how constituents and allies could help support his campaign. “We are thrilled to facilitate this series of events to promote civic engagement,” said Warren Women co-organizer Stacy Rider.
