The next best thing to look into before the winter is upgrading your property's attic insulation system with the help from your local energy provider, CenterPoint Energy! So what does that entail?

1. Energy Audit - Stinson Services, a local insulation company, recommends on having CenterPoint complete a full standard energy audit ($100) on your home. This way you'll receive an unbiased audit with a full multiple page report breaking down the weak areas of your home.

2. Free Consultation - CenterPoint Energy has a list of local insulation contractors that are BPI certified, allowing them to complete the easy Insulation Rebate process that is good for up to $500 back on your insulation project. Sign up for a free consultation in order to get a quote on your property.

Typically projects will cost between $1500-$5000 dollars before the rebate, and this depends on the square footage, type of insulation used and the complexity of the attic space.

3. Complete Project - Once you find the right insulation contractor, set up the project. Each project will have a different timeline but most take 1-2 days to complete. The project will include a before and after air leakage test. This is completed so that CenterPoint Energy can receive data showing that the insulation project was done correctly and allow less air to leak out of your home.

4. Rebate Form - A qualified contractor will fill out the form for you and have you sign it upon completion. The Energy Rebate form is mailed or faxed into CenterPoint Energy after the project is completed. A 30-60 day period will pass before the rebate check is sent in the mail to your property.
