Minnesota Center for Book Arts 30th Anniversary and Book Art Biennial

This summer, MCBA is increasing its reach with its 4th Biennial celebration, inviting artists, educators, curators and scholars.

This summer, MCBA is increasing its reach with its 4th Biennial celebration, inviting artists, educators, curators and scholars from the area, nation and world — as well as the public— to explore current trends in contemporary artists’ books through workshops, lectures, panel conversations, exhibitions, and a gala celebration and awards ceremony.

The series of book-related events includes:

  • Free art crawl focusing on book arts from 6-9 p.m. Fri., July 24, with four coordinated receptions at Open Book (the home of MCBA), the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, the Walker Art Center Library, and Form + Content Gallery;
  • Two ongoing free exhibitions of artists’ books at MCBA, entitled The Contained Narrative: Defining the Contemporary Artist’s Book and Reader’s Art: Concealed, Confined, and Collected;
  • Three workshops on bookmaking craftsmanship from 10am-5 pm on Thursday and Friday, July 23 -24;
  • Symposium, including presentations, a performance, and a roundtable discussion, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sat. and Sun., July 25 - 26;
  • 30th Anniversary Gala and 2015 MCBA Prize presentation Sat. July 25.
