Save Public Land at Grandview
Public Grandview launches campaign to save public land at Grandview site in Edina

Public Grandview, an organization of concerned Edina residents, has launched a campaign and website (http://www.PublicGrandview.com) to advocate for retaining the 3.3 acres of land in the Grandview district for public use. The Grandview property is located at 5146 Eden Avenue, near Jerry’s Foods and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Parish.
Public Grandview asserts that the Edina City Council has repeatedly ignored citizens’ input regarding preservation of the public Grandview property for building a community center. The City has partnered with Frauenshuh Commercial Real Estate Group to create a development plan that includes mixed-use private and public development for Grandview.
Kim Montgomery, an Edina resident who for over seven years has followed the planning process for the future of the Grandview site, says, “Throughout the public process, the city has never allowed full consideration of 100% public use on the site. The City’s stance has been a mixed-use, private/public development, yet they do not define what that means. While the City maintains that citizens do not want to pay for a community center, they have handpicked one or two statistics from a large library of data to support their case. When the data is analyzed in its entirety, it reflects what Edina residents really want: to retain public land to build a community center.”

Montgomery continues, “Building a 21st century community center on public land in the Grandview district would benefit all Edina residents by providing indoor/outdoor gathering spaces, wellness and fitness facilities, arts and cultural venues, and a transportation hub for the surrounding community.”
