Lakeville North Defeats South 24-14 in Section Football Showdown

North remains undefeated and will play Owatonna for State berth.

One of the State's biggest rivalries continued on Saturday night, with hosting in the Section 1AAAAA semifinals. But just like the regular season match which North won, the Panthers beat the South Cougars 24-14.

Lakeville South scored the game's first touchdown, and went into halftime with a 14-6 lead. 

Lakeville North countered in the second half, by improving their execution on offensive drives and scored a touchdown and two-point conversion to tie the game very early on in the second half.

The Panther defense also put more pressure on South quarterback Mitchell Leidner and did not give him time to throw from the pocket. 

Lakeville North took the lead with a second touchdown in the second half, and later added a field goal to make it a two possession game. Lakeville South did threaten to score to pull within a field goal, but Leidner was stripped of the ball and Lakeville North recovered for the win.

Lakeville South finished their season with a record of 7-3.

Lakeville North (9-0) will next take on Owatonna on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. for the right to go to the state tournament.
