Maple Grove Man Convicted Of Killing Wife In March 2020
Hennepin County prosecutors are seeking a longer sentence because the man brought his son home from school to find his mother's body.
MAPLE GROVE, MN — A Maple Grove man is facing more than 30 years in prison after he was convicted of killing his wife last year.
A jury on Friday found John Wiseman, 55, guilty of intentional second-degree murder for fatally shooting his wife, Yang Liu, in their home in March 2020, according to Hennepin County Attorney Michael Freeman.
Maple Grove police found Liu dead from multiple gunshot wounds on March 10, 2020, after Wiseman called 911 to report she was not breathing, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

Maple Grove Woman Convicted Of Killing Boyfriend Last Year
Police searched Wiseman’s home in the 8600 block of Quarles Road and discovered $5,000 in cash and a passport that were hidden inside a box, along with no signs of forced entry, the release states. Police also found gunshot residue on Wiseman’s shirt sleeves and a rag in his car, prosecutors said.

Witnesses told police that Wiseman and Liu had a “volatile” relationship due to finances and infidelity, with one reporting that Wiseman wanted a divorce but “did not want to split the assets” he said he earned, the release states.
Wiseman faces up to 30.5 years in prison after being convicted of intentional second-degree murder, but Hennepin County prosecutors said they are seeking a longer sentence because Wiseman brought his son home from school to find his mother’s body.
He is due to be sentenced Nov. 30.
