MAPLE GROVE, MN — Maple Grove police asked the Hennepin County Attorney's Office to consider filing manslaughter charges in the cold case of a 19-year-old who died in 2009, according to multiple reports.

Robbie Anderson died in 2009 of blunt force trauma to the head and neck, and the manner of death was homicide, according to a new autopsy from an independent medical examiner. The body was exhumed from Anoka's Forest Hill Cemetery in November, FOX 9 reported.

The original autopsy from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner in 2009 declared that the 19-year-old died from "sudden unexplained death."

Cikotte Anderson, the teen's mother, is relieved that her son's case will be reviewed.

"I cried so hard," Cikotte Anderson told the Star Tribune on Monday. "I was thrilled. I thought, finally. I believe justice is coming. We now wait and hope justice will be swift."

Anderson died in the early morning of Dec. 4, 2009, after reportedly drinking vodka with two of his longtime friends.

At about 3:30 a.m., one of the friends called 911 to say that Anderson "fell out of his chair and stopped breathing." At the scene, investigators noted that Anderson had "two black eyes," and "bruising down the side of his nose," as well as "blood on his upper lip and in his nostrils."

One of the friends was arrested, and while in the cop car, screamed "Oh my God, I killed Rob."

However, the medical examiner was unable to find an exact cause of death, and the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office declined to file manslaughter charges.
