Woman Survives Scary Collision With Hunk Of Metal In Maple Grove

The piece of metal flew off a nearby truck on I-494, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

MAPLE GROVE, MN — Imagine a piece of sharp metal smashing through your car’s windshield while driving down the freeway. That’s what happened to a 38-year-old Chaska woman as she was traveling on northbound Interstate 494 near Interstate 94 on Oct. 26 in Maple Grove.

The Minnesota State Patrol told Patch a piece of metal flew off a nearby truck, bounced off the interstate and blasted through the woman's windshield. She walked away from the scary crash with a few small cuts.

Authorities said the driver of the other vehicle was not located. It is unclear what the piece of metal was from.

Local law enforcement is using the incident to remind drivers to make sure anything they’re transporting is properly secured. Unsecured loads can be deadly. Authorities recommend using ratchet straps or toe straps to secure loads.
