MINNESOTA — Former President Donald Trump Tuesday made a surprise endorsement of Kim Crockett, the Republican candidate for Minnesota Secretary of State.

"A strong and wonderful woman named Kim Crockett is running, as the Republican Nominee, for Secretary of State in Minnesota, a State where Election Fraud is rampant, but where nothing is done about it or, more importantly, to FIX IT," Trump said on Truth Social, his social media platform.

"Kim will get to the bottom of that, and so much else," he continued. "It’s time we had a smart and dedicated fighter in that very important position. Kim Crockett has my Complete & Total Endorsement. She will not let you down!!!"

The chairman of Minnesota's Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, Ken Martin, issued a statement "condemning" the endorsement.

"Just like Donald Trump, Kim Crockett is spreading dangerous lies about election fraud that undermine faith in democracy and tear at the fabric of our society," Martin said.

"Donald Trump’s false claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him, claims which Crockett has echoed, directly led to a violent attempt to overthrow the United States government. It is more important than ever that we do not allow one of Donald Trump’s lackeys into office to continue attacking the legitimacy of our elections and spreading conspiracy theories that incite political violence."

Crockett is challenging the DFL-endorsed incumbent, Secretary of State Steve Simon. According to a recent poll, Crockett is trailing Simon by just two percentage points.
