West Lutheran Softball Combines Old and New
This season for the West Lutheran Warriors softball team seems like last year's with six returning seniors, but there has been a big change on the sidelines.
Even though it seems like the same Warriors softball team as last season with six returning players, there is a big change to the sidelines this season.
This year, Bill Schendel will be taking over the head coaching responsibilities with Bill Volbrecht assisting.
"The girls are calling us Bill 'SQUARED', " said Coach Schendel. "We never imagined being in this situation and trying to convince young ladies that we actually seen the game of fastpitch before."

Schendel said all the girls are upbeat and smiling all the time, and work very hard in practice.
"We just want the girls to have fun playing fastpitch this season; putting God first, family and then sports," he said.

The coaching staff is also thankful for additional help from Jenna Gehl, Al Stromback and Doug Beise.
Coach Schendel said he has a great team this season and is confident that they will do very well barring injuries.
The Warriors are lead by six returning lettermen including:
Ashley Wald - 3rd base - Senior
Aimie Wiechmann - Pitcher - Senior
Ashley Schendel - Catcher - Senior
Megan Steffel - 1st base - Senior
Laura Kolander - Center field - Senior
Jordyn Stromback - Left field - Sophomore
New to the starting lineup are:
Ashley Beise - Short Stop - Freshman
Hailey Vollbrecht - 2nd base - Freshman
Swing players that will start Varsity and JV.
Morgan Boudreau -Right field/1st base - Junior
Jordan Mutterer- Right field/Catcher - Junior
Abbie Westberg - Pitcher/Pitcher - Sophomore
Stephanie Christoffersen - Right field/2nd base - Freshman
Hannah Steinke - 2nd base/Pitcher - Freshman
The future is also looking bright with the JV softball team coached by Mel Boyd. The JV team will play a total of nine games this season with three games played the same time as the varsity, but on different fields.
The Warriors have 19 girls total with Varsity and JV, which means they may be spread thin, but everyone will have opportunities to play.
"We will start every game with prayer, and thank the Lord for this opportunity to be able to participate," Schendel said. "I am very proud of these girls already and blessed to have this chance to be on the field with them."
