Richfield Resident Wins Minnesota's 'Volunteer of the Year' Award

Over the last 20 years, Rob Riley has dedicated more than 700 hours of his time and expertise to Richfield Police Department, officials say.

A Richfield resident has been awarded the Minnesota Crime Prevention Association’s 2016 Volunteer of the Year Award. Rob Riley, a life-long resident of Richfield, has volunteered for the Richfield Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit for 20 years, assisting with the Police and Fire Safety Day, Night to Unite, and the Citizen Police Academy.

Since attending his first Citizen Police Academy in 1995, Riley has been a proponent of the Richfield police, according to a news release. During every Night to Unite while visiting block parties, Riley has encouraged many residents to participate in the Citizen’s Academy.

His goal is to increase community understanding of law enforcement by convincing them to invest their time in getting to know their police department. Richfield police say Riley "is an invaluable asset and his photography is an important element of our programs." He has documented many stories of the Richfield Police Department and Richfield Community Members, city officials say.
