ST. PAUL, MN — The Current Tuesday announced the hire of Ayisha Jaffer as their new on-air evenings host. Jaffer can be heard starting the week of April 18 on The Current’s broadcasts across Minnesota and online.

Jaffer is coming from WNXP Nashville, where she served as a midday host. Before Nashville, Jaffer was an afternoon host at WYMS Radio Milwaukee.

Before radio, she worked in music management in the United States and New Zealand with artists including Lorde, Cut Copy and Architecture in Helsinki. She got her start in radio at New Zealand stations 95BFM and Aotea FM.

"As a true Midwesterner, joining the team at The Current feels like coming home," Jaffer said in a news release. "I am looking forward to being a voice on the air and a friend in your community."

"Music is boundaryless and I believe in using it to drive connections and amplify voices. I am excited to get to know The Current’s listeners by sharing experiences, hearing yours and highlighting artists, creators, and dreamers alike. In this role, I hope to add to an already strong platform and pay it forward. Like Mr. Rogers says, let’s 'make goodness attractive'"

Ayisha's life outside music includes wildlife conservation efforts and kayaking. She has worked as a park ranger in Alaska.

"We’re so excited to add Ayisha to the team at The Current," said Jim McGuinn, program director at The Current.

"She brings together tremendous energy, knowledge, and a passion for the music, a fascinating background both in radio and around artists—and even bears!—and a real desire to connect listeners to the music and each other. She can’t wait to discover more of the music (and navigable waters) of Minnesota and become part of our community. We’re psyched for her to join us at The Current."
