Be Kind to Those Who are Different
Do you ever find yourself staring at someone who is different than you?

Do you ever find yourself staring at someone who is different than you? Someone with a handicap, someone with a disability, a woman in a head scarf, etc. A second look is normal, but staring is not kind. Recently on The Blogunteer, a guest post by Mindy Rhiger shared ways to be kind and curious at the same time. For example, it isn't okay to stare. Look for cues from the individual and approach them with questions if they appear open to them. Also, don't make assumptions about a disability. Not all disabilities are caused by an accident.
The post also offers tips for parents of curious children. One tip is to relate the disability to a story or movie that they are familiar with, such as Nemo's "lucky fin" in Finding Nemo. In addition, don't scold a child for being curious or asking a question. It is normal for a child to be curious.
