Fire Station Arts March Update

Fire Station Arts meeting spawns River Valley Cooperative Arts.

March Fire Station Update:

Just a quick update. Although it's been a busy month, I'll try to keep this short.

1. We are filing for non-profit as River Valley Cooperative Arts. The thought is that we have such good energy going right now and we want to continue pursing creative solutions to area issues and promote engagement with the arts, beyond just the fire station. It also will help us begin fundraising. If you are interested in becoming a part of the larger group, send us an email. The fire station will be the first of many projects to come for our group.

2. has offered to be our fiscal agent until we are an official non-profit. Thank you Kathy.

3. We have been selected to be a potential grantee at the MPLS FEAST event this Saturday from 6pm-9pm. It is open to the public. Please join us. Every vote counts! More information can be found here

4. We met some really amazing partners in Mary Hernandez, Shakopee school cultural liaison and member of the Economic Development Advisory Committee, and Joseph, Dan, and Denise of Beyond The Yellow Ribbon, a support organization for veterans. This thing is feeling more like a community center every day!

5. We have a business plan mentor in Dan Mills from the Burnsville Chapter of Score.

6. At tonight's City Council meeting (Tuesday March 20th, 7:00 - ) The council will be announcing an open Request For Proposals (RFP) for public use of the fire station. This is great opportunity for everyone involved. The more people thinking about revitalizing the downtown area, the better. Plus, this will give us a bit more time to work out more of the business plan. Some of us will be in attendance to give a brief update. You are all welcome to come down and show your support.
