Local Author Raising Funds for Scholarship

It is all over the news...tuition costs are rising and college is becoming too expensive for some families. It is difficult for many families to navigate the difficult path to pay for college - but imagine how much more difficult it is for families who may not speak English as their first language or may be sending a family member to college for the first time.

Local author Cristina Oxtra (who is also the communications coordinator at Shakopee Public Schools) understands that path. She is an Asian American who immigrated to the United States with her family when she was in high school. She didn't receive much guidence as she was navigating that path, so now she is working to help others. She has created a scholarship for local high school seniors and is using the proceeds from her children's book, "Mookie's Teeth" to help fund the scholarship.
