Hit Play, 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' Opening in Shakopee

It is almost hard to believe that it was 50 years ago this month that Edward Albee's masterpiece, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, opened on Broadway and garnered the Tony Award for Best Play, among many other awards and accolades. Fifty years and several incarnations later, the play remains fresh and riveting. A new production from Chicago’s renowned Steppenwolf Theatre opened just this past weekend on Broadway to rave reviews - on the 50th anniversary of the original.

With excellent timing, River Valley Theatre Company of Shakopee will open their own intimate staging of this timeless classic on Friday, October 19. The show plays at the West Junior High auditorium in Shakopee, 200 E 10th Avenue. Performances are October 19-21 and 26-28, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for students and seniors. This show contains strong language and adult content and is recommended for mature audiences. Tickets may be purchased online via our website or at the door (cash or check only).

RVTC has partnered once again with Arizona’s Steakhouse to offer a dinner and show package - for two people, only $49. Dinner includes soup or salad, a choice of entrees, and dessert and was raved about by past guests. Reservations may be made by calling Arizona’s directly at 952-277-0282.

• Lynda K. Plante of Brooklyn Park plays Martha, the loud but ultimately lovable anti-heroine of the show
• Alan Davis, an RVTC veteran of six productions and a resident of Lakeville, as George, a disillusioned professor at a small college who appears unassuming at first
• Jamel S. Anderson of Plymouth - a professional voice over actor and model and relative newcomer to the stage - as Nick, a young new professor who has no idea what he is up against
• Christina Swan of St. Paul - recently seen in last fall’s Lend Me a Tenor and in our first show, Rumors - as the delightfully dippy Honey, Nick’s sometimes-pregnant wife
