World Menopause Day Acknowledges an Important Time in the Lives of All Women

The Menopause Center of Minnesota, located in St. Paul and Shakopee, will give away a free book to Twin Cities area women on October 18

World Menopause Day will be observed on October 18, 2014. The aim of the holiday is to raise awareness of perimenopause (the period before menopause) and menopause for women globally. Too frequently, this stage of life carries with it shame or stigma, when in reality it’s one of the most important – and most freeing – times in the lives of women, and all women will experience it sooner or later.

At the Menopause Center of Minnesota one of our ongoing missions is to make women feel more comfortable with menopause, not only physically by alleviating uncomfortable symptoms, but mentally by giving them peace of mind and inspiration that the “change” is nothing to be ashamed of, but instead is a great liberation from the many concerns of child-bearing age. We embrace this time of life not only on World Menopause Day, but every day.

As part of our community outreach and work to educate Twin Cities area women about the symptoms, science and treatment options for menopause, the Menopause Center of Minnesota is offering a free menopause guidebook in conjunction with the North American Menopause Society on World Menopause Day, October 18. The Menopause Guidebook, a 60 page book, is an indispensable resource for women who want to make informed decisions about their healthcare. It is the most complete discussion on the subject of menopause available anywhere. To take advantage of this offer, visit the North American Menopause Society website on October 18.

Menopause Deserves Recognition, Too

In our society, various phases of a woman’s reproductive cycle are actively celebrated. When a girl first begins to menstruate, she’s said to “become a woman”. When a woman gets pregnant, she’s showered with gifts, compliments, encouragement and special treatment. But when a woman goes through menopause, she’s often left feeling alone and ashamed. We want to revolutionize the way women perceive menopause by offering caring and compassionate, specialized care to women in the Twin Cities area, and encouraging women everywhere to learn more about menopause treatment options and how they can embrace, rather than resent, this change of life. We have a number of educational and inspirational posts on our blog and suggest the irreverent, enlightening movie Hot Flash Havoc to women and men alike. You can also learn more about making the most of menopause by following us on Facebook or Twitter, and keep an eye on our news page for our special events in the area.
