Lakers Wrap Up Swim Season At State

Minneapolis Southwest placed 30th in Class AA standings after competing in a trio of consolation events on Saturday.

Minneapolis Southwest closed out its 2010-11 boys swimming and diving season with three consolation-round swims on Saturday night at the Class AA state championship meet.

Lakers senior Anders Berglund competed in all three competitions, swimming twice individually before joining his teammates for the final event of the night — the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Berglund began his night by taking 14th overall in the 50-yard freestyle, placing sixth in the consolation heat with a time of 22.07 seconds; he then took tenth in the 100-yard freestyle with a runner-up consolation finish of 47.87.

The senior was joined by classmates Christian Clarity and Joe Heegaard and sophomore Ben Coldwell to take 16th in the 400 relay in a time of 3:20.56.

Southwest placed 30th in the final team standings with 12 points.
