Millers Beat St Paul's Johnson—Next Stop: Champions?
Washburn High School advances to final round of state basketball tournament
It was neck-and-neck, but in the last minutes of the game, Washburn High School's boys varsity basketball team broke out, beating St Paul's Johnson High School 75-66.
The Millers face the second-seeded DeLaSalle (23-6) at 6 p.m. on Saturday night at the Target Center to determine the 2012 Class AAA basketball champion.
In a tense last half, Johnson frequently matched Washburn, point for point. As the clock wound down to 4 minutes, Washburn players suddenly exploded in a frenzy of intercepted passes, blocked shots, and breakouts to rack up point after point, while Johnson could only watch their narrow lead slip away.
