Minneapolis Southwest Competes At Section Tennis

The Lakers finished the 2011 season at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center

The Minneapolis Southwest boys tennis team competed in the Section 6AA individual and doubles tournament at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center on Tuesday.

None of the Lakers’ entrants advanced to Wednesday’s section semifinals, which begin at 8 a.m. at the U of M.

On the singles side, Southwest’s Evan Mair went 1-1 on the day. He defeated Richfield’s Alex Maki 6-4, 6-3 before falling to Holy Angels’ Lucas Ciabattoni 6-1, 6-0 in the second round.

Southwest’s Beau Baker also went 1-1, beating Richfield’s Mo Heckel 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 before losing to South’s David Yanagita.

In doubles action, Greg Weiner and Alex Winzenberg defeated Patrick Henry 6-1, 6-0 in the first round before falling to Wayzata 6-1, 6-0 in the second round. Carl Vaughan and Isaiah Paguyo lost their first match to Benidle-St. Margaret’s 7-6, 6-3 in the first round.
