Southwest's Pashibin Wins High Jump at State Meet

A Southwest athlete also won third place in the boys triple jump.

Southwest High School's Tatyana Pashibin took first place in high jump and second place in triple jump at the state meet Friday.

Athletes from both Southwest and Washburn High Schools competed in a variety of events, including relays and hurdles.

A Washburn boys 4 x 100 relay team placed 5th in preliminaries, and 9th in finals. The team included Demetrius Scales, Cedric Cheppel, Shakeel Nelson and Jason Williams.

Southwest's Evan Gray also placed 3rd in boys triple jump and 12th in boys long jump.

The Southwest girls track team was ranked 18th overall, out of 64 competing teams.

The Southwest boys team was ranked 34th, with Washburn boys coming in at 43rd.

Boys 4 x 100 Meter Relay Finals: 9th place, Minneapolis Washburn* (Demetrius Scales 11, Cedric Cheppel 12, Shakeel Nelson 11, Jamison Whiting 10), 44.30.

Boys 4 x 100 Meter Relay Preliminaries: 5th place, Minneapolis Washburn* (Demetrius Scales 11, Cedric Cheppel 12, Shakeel Nelson 11, Jason Williams 10), 43.09q.

Boys Long Jump: 12th place, Evan Gray, Minneapolis Southwest, 21-02, w:1.5.

Boys Triple Jump: 3rd place, Evan Gray, Minneapolis Southwest, 45-07, w:0.3.

Girls 300 Meter Hurdles Preliminaries: 15th place. Marolyn Saulsberry, Minneapolis Southwest, 49.41.
