Fake Uber Driver Sexually Assaulted Woman in Woodbury: Police

Police say a man pretending to be an Uber driver picked up a woman in Uptown and attempted to sexually assault her in Woodbury.

A woman was sexually assaulted in Woodbury after getting into the car of man who was posing as an Uber driver, police say.

KMSP reported that a man pretending to be an Uber driver reportedly picked up a woman in Uptown. Authorities say he then drove her to Woodbury, where he tried to sexually assault her.

Woodbury police said the attempted sexual assault occurred around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20.

The victim said she fought off the the driver and called 911 from a nearby house. She was not injured in the attack.

Woodbury police is not releasing details of the suspect at this time, as they say it would compromise the investigation.

Uber spokeswoman Kayla Whaling told the Star Tribune that Uber drivers soliciting customers for rides is against company policy. "We do not allow street pickups," she said. "Everything is done through the app."
