• Brookhaven moves to top 5 percent nationwide in closing criminal cases (dailyleader.com) — Brookhaven’s police department now closes about 70% of its criminal cases, putting the city among the top 5 percent nationwide for case clearance and well above the FBI average. Chief Dustin Bairfield credits added detectives and faster evening investigations, and he’s pushing to hire more officers, expand K-9 units, and build a digital forensics lab to further improve safety for residents.
   

• City of Brookhaven approves $4.5M bond sale for infrastructure (dailyleader.com) — Brookhaven aldermen have approved moving forward with a $4.5 million, 10‑year bond sale to fund city infrastructure projects without raising taxes, despite one member abstaining over financial details. The board also advanced grants for a new Public Safety and Community Resilience Center and pedestrian upgrades near Brookhaven High School, while handling routine contracts and a new part‑time janitor for the police department.
   

• Disaster recovery centers to open in five Mississippi counties (darkhorsepressnow.com) — Lincoln County residents, including those in Brookhaven, can now visit a new Disaster Recovery Center at East Lincoln Fire Department to get help after the May 6–7 storms and tornadoes. FEMA, MEMA, and SBA staff there can assist with applications for housing aid, repairs, and low‑interest loans, though you can also apply online, by app, or by phone.
