The new "Iconic" season features seven concerts through May, including a Halloween-themed program, a holiday spectacular, a major choral work, and a Beethoven finale with the Hattiesburg Choral Union.

STEPPING UP TO SERVE: Hattiesburg firefighters revive pitbull rescued from burning home (darkhorsepressnow.com) — Hattiesburg firefighters rushed to a house fire on Ashford Circle Thursday night and found the home engulfed in flames, with no residents inside. Crews discovered a pitbull needing urgent care, carried it outside, and successfully revived it, though officials have not yet shared the cause of the fire or the dog's current condition.
   

5. Researchers capture 255 bats during three-night survey in south Mississippi (darkhorsepressnow.com) — Researchers and volunteers gathered in the Hattiesburg area for a three-night Bat Blitz, capturing and releasing 255 bats while surveying 39 sites across 10 south Mississippi counties. The project, led by the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science and partners, aims to better understand local bat species and guide future conservation work that could affect area forests, parks, and neighborhoods.
