📰 News we're reading
• Football Recap: Oak Grove Takes Down Ranked Petal (maxpreps.com) — Oak Grove's narrow 29–28 win over previously unbeaten Petal sets up a big in-conference showdown with Meridian on October 16. Meridian fans can look ahead to hosting a red-hot Warriors team riding a five-game win streak. The matchup promises major playoff implications and a high-energy atmosphere under the Friday night lights.
• Hearings on redistricting show a steep divide among Mississippi voters (mpbonline.org) — Mississippi lawmakers recently held a redistricting hearing in Meridian as part of a statewide tour, drawing strong concerns that new maps could weaken Black voting power. Residents, advocates, and officials clashed over whether changes are needed, while legislators offered little detail on their plans. Any redistricting would likely happen in a short window between late December and January.
