• Volunteers worry Independence is unprepared for disasters after city relationship breaks down (kshb.com) — Independence volunteers who help with emergency preparedness say recent city policy changes have sidelined them, leaving gaps they believe worsened storm impacts during SantaCaliGon Days on the Square. City officials insist their emergency structure worked as intended but admit volunteer roles, insurance coverage, and communication systems are in flux as preparedness shifts back to the Fire Department and a new emergency manager comes on board.
   

• New websites will show Jackson County homeowners their tax credit (kctv5.com) — Jackson County homeowners can soon use two new websites to see exactly how much property tax credit they'll receive, with details unveiled at a Taxpayer Update Town Hall at the Midwest Genealogy Center in Independence. The credits apply to owners whose recent assessments jumped more than 15%, and County Executive Phil LeVota will explain how relief is spread over three years and answer residents' questions.
