Moms, sons team up to repair Kansas City homes on Rebuilding Day (kctv5.com) — Kansas City homeowners in Clay, Platte, and Jackson counties saw major repairs and accessibility upgrades as hundreds of Rebuilding Together Kansas City volunteers fanned out to 23 homes. Local moms and their high-school sons from several area schools spent hours clearing debris, landscaping, and improving safety so low-income and disabled residents can live more comfortably and independently.
   

2. Riverside kids met their 'Heroes in the Park' at annual event (kctv5.com) — Families in Riverside, just northwest of Kansas City spent Sunday meeting local police, sheriff's deputies, firefighters and conservation officers during the "Heroes in the Park" event. Kids got to interact with K9 officers, enjoy a petting zoo, and even meet Royals mascot Slugger, while officers emphasized building trust and more human connections with neighborhood residents.
   

3. Kansas City Film Fest brings local and international stories to the big screen (kctv5.com) — Kansas Citians can catch new independent films from around the world this weekend at KC FilmFest International at the AMC on Ward Parkway. The festival showcases local talent too, including a Mizzou alum's documentary short about a small-town quinceañera and cultural identity, giving film lovers a chance to support regional creators on the big screen.
   

4. Jury: Man forced minors to commit sex acts with adults in Kansas (hayspost.com) — A Kansas City man was convicted by a federal jury of sex trafficking two runaway minors across Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and other states, forcing them into commercial sex acts he arranged and profited from. Investigators say digital records, hotel bookings and victim statements showed he controlled their movements and payments, prompting federal prosecutors to emphasize their focus on protecting vulnerable youth from traffickers.
   

5. Many in Kansas City standing in solidarity with Haitian community in Springfield (fox4kc.com) — Kansas City residents gathered this weekend to support the Haitian community in Springfield, Ohio, after the death of Pierre Damas Bel, while demanding an end to immigration ankle monitors. Local advocates and faith leaders also pushed for restoring and expanding Temporary Protected Status, urging neighbors here to use their voices and privilege to stand with immigrants facing uncertainty.
