Former Kansas City elementary school building being sold for $1.4 million (fox4kc.com) — A former Truman Elementary School building in south Kansas City has been sold by the Hickman Mills district to the Islamic Society of Greater Kansas City for $1.4 million, keeping the site in educational and community use. The nonprofit plans to offer services like an open gym and food pantry, while the sale helps the district address a major budget deficit and maintain the property's role in serving local families.
   

2. Jackson County arson team formed to target Kansas City fire hotspots (kctv5.com) — Kansas City residents in the East Patrol area are seeing new attention from Jackson County prosecutors, who've launched an Arson Focused Deterrence Initiative after dozens of fires at vacant properties like Olive Park Village and Parade Park. The small but growing team is working closely with KCPD and the Kansas City Fire Department to quickly file cases, crack down on dangerous "warming fires," and improve safety for nearby neighbors and firefighters.
   

3. Houdini marker unveiled in Kansas City (kq2.com) — Downtown Kansas City now has a new historic marker at 10th and Main honoring Harry Houdini's first upside-down straitjacket escape, performed there in 1915. Magicians' groups led the effort, a local performer recreated the stunt, and Mayor Quinton Lucas proclaimed September as Harry Houdini Month, inviting residents to visit the marker near the Central Library and learn more about his legacy.
   

4. Hundreds of volunteers help pack meals to fight food insecurity in Kansas City (fox4kc.com) — Hundreds of volunteers gathered at Kansas City's T-Mobile Center to pack nearly 193,000 meals for families facing food insecurity across Kansas and Missouri. As part of the 9/11 Day national service movement's first year in Kansas City, local businesses, sports organizations, and nonprofits teamed up to turn remembrance into hands-on help for neighbors who struggle to access healthy food.
   

5. Match Report: Orlando Pride draw 2-2 at Kansas City Current (orlandocitysc.com) — Fans at Kansas City's CPKC Stadium watched the Current battle back from a 2–0 deficit to earn a 2–2 draw against the Orlando Pride. Barbra Banda scored twice for Orlando before Temwa Chawinga and Elizabeth Bell brought Kansas City level, keeping the Current unbeaten at home against the Pride and adding late-season drama to the playoff race.
