1. Springfield health department asks for $500K to map mental health and substance use services in Greene County (ky3.com subscription) — Springfield-Greene County Health Department is asking Springfield City Council for up to $500,000 in opioid settlement funds to map mental health and substance use services across Greene County. The project would hire a consultant to identify service gaps, improve coordination, and create a public-facing resource map, with council set to revisit the proposal on September 21.
   

2. He knew Springfield police were coming. He started the movie anyway (ozarksfirst.com) — A century ago in downtown Springfield, a Grand Theatre owner deliberately broke the city's Sunday movie ban to force a court fight that reshaped local entertainment laws. His staged arrest led to a Missouri Supreme Court ruling that struck down Springfield's ordinance and opened the way for legal Sunday movies, changing how residents could spend their weekends.
   

3. Springfield DAR chapter plans Constitution Week events (news-leader.com) — Springfield residents can join Constitution Week observances Sept. 17–23, including a public exhibit at The Library Center on South Campbell and a bell-ringing event on Sept. 17. The local DAR chapter is also receiving a mayoral proclamation and encouraging churches, schools, veterans groups, and others to participate in the nationwide "Ringing of Bells Across America."
   

4. A Trip on Route 66 (Part 1) (motorweek.org) — Springfield plays a starring role in this Route 66 centennial road trip, with the Carloss family visiting a special centennial attraction, driving the city's musical road, and grabbing breakfast at a long-running College Street cafe. Their journey highlights how Springfield anchors the route between Illinois and Oklahoma, showcasing nostalgic roadside stops and family-friendly experiences that locals may recognize or want to revisit themselves.
   

5. Lawsuit claims Springfield bar overserved woman before crash (ozarksfirst.com) — A Springfield bar on South Glenstone Avenue is being sued by a St. Louis man who says staff overserved a woman before she allegedly crashed into his vehicle at Glenstone and Cherokee. The lawsuit claims she showed clear signs of intoxication, later blew a .136 blood alcohol level, and that he suffered significant injuries, with damages now being sought in court.
