1. Cardinal Ritter helped shape her. Now she shapes it (stlamerican.com) — A longtime leader of Cardinal Ritter College Prep in St. Louis is being honored this fall for transforming the predominantly Black Catholic high school with higher enrollment, stronger academics, and expanded programs. President and CEO Tamiko Armstead, a Ritter alum and former Edward Jones executive, has focused on student-centered leadership, recruiting more Black male educators, and launching anti-violence initiatives that resonate deeply with local families.
   

2. $10M in federal funds headed to downtown St. Louis greenway expansion, other paths (stlpr.org) — Downtown St. Louis is set to gain a new half‑mile stretch of the Brickline Greenway along Market Street, thanks to a $7.5 million federal grant within a $10.5 million regional package. The funding helps advance a long‑term plan to connect 14 city neighborhoods to jobs, parks, and cultural sites, while also improving paths in north St. Louis and St. Charles County.
   

3. Investigation forces settlement at 'hell hole' downtown St. Louis property (firstalert4.com) — More than 150 residents of the former Mark Twain Hotel in downtown St. Louis must leave by early September under a new settlement between the city, state, and the building's owner. While tenants receive modest cash payments, rent forgiveness, and relocation help, advocates warn that nearly 100 people still lack housing options, raising fears of a homelessness crisis on nearby streets.
   

4. Man charged with murder in shooting outside St. Louis nightclub (kmov.com) — A 30-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action after a June shooting outside a downtown St. Louis nightclub on Locust Street that left another man dead. Police say the suspect became agitated during a conversation, drew a gun, and shot the victim multiple times before fleeing; he is currently held without bond.
   

5. Housing in St. Louis Is Affordable, and Has Been for a Long Time (showmeinstitute.org) — St. Louis residents benefit from some of the most affordable housing in the country, thanks to a long history of abundant construction and relatively flexible zoning across the region. The piece explains how strong housing supply, weaker in‑migration, and fragmented local governments have kept prices near inflation for more than a century, while also warning that low costs alone can't offset the city's broader economic and population challenges.
