Head of MoDOT Resigns Suddenly

The Missouri Department of Transportation announced MoDOT Director Kevin Keith's resignation today. Effective immediately, Chief Engineer Dave Nichols will serve as interim director.

Thursday afternoon, the Missouri Department of Transportation announced a change in leadership with the sudden resignation ofΒ MoDOT Director Kevin Keith who is taking medical leave immediately.

The Missouri Department of Transportation will see aΒ change in leadership as MoDOT Director Kevin Keith steps down and ChiefΒ Engineer Dave Nichols assumes the role of interim director for theΒ department.

Keith has submitted his resignation and will leave his role effectiveΒ immediately, taking a medical leave of absence with plans to retire on JulyΒ 1, 2013. Nichols will step in as interim MoDOT director for a minimum ofΒ one year, according to Missouri Highways and Transportation CommissionΒ Chairman Joe Carmichael.

β€œThe commission has accepted Kevin’s resignation and we are gratefulΒ for his long career of dedicated, results-oriented service to MoDOT and theΒ citizens of Missouri,” said Carmichael. β€œWe are committed to a seamlessΒ leadership transition for the benefit of our employees, our customers, and our stakeholders.”

Interim MoDOT Director Dave Nichols has served with MoDOT for 29Β years in a variety of leadership roles, including his work as theΒ department’s first director of program delivery prior to becoming chiefΒ engineer. He has also served as district engineer for the department’sΒ Northwest District headquartered in St. Joseph and worked in MoDOT’s KansasΒ City District.

β€œThe commission is very confident in Dave’s ability to carry MoDOTΒ forward in all respects,” said Carmichael.
