Officials with the Missoula City-County Health Department, Community Medical Center, Missoula County Public Schools and Curry Health Center at the University of Montana say vaccine clinics are filling up quickly after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended that children ages 5 and older receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Appointments are still available, and parents can review options at https://covid19.missoula.co/get-vaccinated/

If you or someone you know has questions about the COVID-19 vaccine for children age 5+, call Community Medical Center’s Nurse on Call Line at (406) 327-4770 from 5 to 7 p.m. to speak to a pediatrician. This service will be available through Thursday, Nov. 18. Calls to the Nurse on Call Line are free of charge, and though specific medical advice will not be provided for individual children, they can answer questions and concerns about the vaccine and connect families with primary and specialty care providers, if necessary. Answers to some of the most common questions the call line has received are online.
Representatives with a local developer and an engineering firm presented a proposal to the Missoula County commissioners Monday afternoon that could facilitate housing and mixed-use development where the County-owned Larchmont Golf Course currently sits. The commission has not made any decisions on the proposal and did not take formal action at the meeting. Any formal decision will be preceded by a public comment period.
The Missoula County commissioners are seeking nominees to serve on the Flathead Reservation Water Management Board. The board, recently established with the signing of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes – Montana Compact, will administer and manage all aspects of water use within the Flathead Reservation.
The commissioners of each county whose boundaries include any portion of the Flathead Reservation will nominate individuals for Gov. Greg Gianforte's consideration for appointment to the board. Missoula County commissioners are allowed to submit two nominees for the governor’s consideration.
Qualified candidates must submit a cover letter and resume to the commissioners by 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, via email at bcc@missoulacounty.us or mail at 200 W. Broadway, Missoula, MT 59802.
Housing Specialist Jordan Lyons explains the three main goals in the first draft of the County's Housing Action Plan: Breaking Ground. He talks through the difficult elements impacting housing in Missoula County, like why Missoula County has a shortage of about 2,400 housing units, with home prices rising much faster than incomes. Jordan explains how the market will not fill in the gap in the housing units Missoula County needs in the short-term, but that the plan sets a course for sustainable growth in our housing supply and prioritizes the members of our community who have been shut out of housing they can afford.
The public comment period closed Nov. 12, but the draft plan is still available to review at http://missoula.co/housing.
Public input on the draft County Housing Action Plan received by Nov. 12 will be incorporated into a new draft the Missoula Consolidated Planning Board will consider at a public hearing in December. The final version of the Housing Action Plan will be presented to the Missoula Board of County Commissioners as a growth policy amendment in early 2022.

Pirrie Durkee, financial coordinator at the Weed District and Extension Office
“I started working for the Weed District and Extension Office in June 2019 after working for the Missoula County Fairgrounds for nine years. When I made the switch to the Weed District and Extension Office, I was very excited for what the future held for our organization; not only are we bringing something completely new to the Missoula community, but we are also building a place where the community can learn about a variety of topics. From bugs to pressure cookers, our staff helps meet the needs of many in our community.
As for me, I work behind the scenes. I manage the financial activity for the office. My days are spent crunching numbers and looking at spreadsheets to keep our budget in balance. I also spend many of my days paying bills and keeping the lights on, so to speak. Our office has many moving parts. From a variety of grant funded projects, such as the Watercraft Inspection Station, to paying construction fees for the new Rocky Mountain Gardens and Exploration Center, there are quite a few accounts to focus on throughout the year.
