The meeting will feature discussion about the proposed cannabis regulations, which focus on the impacts of dispensaries on the streetscape and energy consumption of cultivation in Missoula County. The Community and Planning Services staff welcome feedback on the proposed zoning regulations and are actively trying to reach cannabis business owners, growers and leaders in the cannabis industry to ensure proposed regulations are fitting and supportive.

The Missoula Consolidated Planning Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed Missoula County Housing Action Plan at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, via Zoom. Find information on how to join here.

Missoula County has faced housing affordability challenges for over a decade, but in recent years a housing shortage and growing population have exacerbated the problem. The recommended actions in the housing action plan fall under three broad goals:

    • Use the County’s toolkit, including zoning, infrastructure and use of County lands, to increase the housing supply
    • Provide more funding for programs to help people access and stay in stable housing
    • Partner with the city, housing nonprofits and developers to improve policy

A local developer and an engineering firm shared a proposal with the Missoula Board of County Commissioners Nov. 15 that would facilitate housing and mixed-use development where the County-owned Larchmont Golf Course currently sits. The commission took no formal action at the Nov. 15 meeting. The proposal is in its beginning stages, and County staff will need to determine the answers to many legal and financial questions, including assessing the value of the land and quantifying its public benefit, before the County could seriously pursue it.  The next step for the County is for staff to develop a workplan to determine the time and resources required to further research the feasibility of the proposal.  A public comment period would precede any formal decision the commissioners make.
