1. FWP to host information session on mule deer, CWD on September 23 in Missoula (mt.gov) — Missoula hunters and wildlife enthusiasts can attend a free Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks information session on mule deer and chronic wasting disease at the local FWP office on September 23 at 6 p.m. Region 2 biologists will share recent survey results, long-term trends, and hunting season insights, followed by a detailed presentation on CWD monitoring and how hunters can help.
   

2. City reaffirms contract with Missoula Economic Partnership (missoulacurrent.com) — Missoula's City Council has renewed its $100,000 annual contract with the Missoula Economic Partnership, keeping the group as the city's main economic development arm for another year. Supporters say MEP has diversified the local economy, expanded flights, and grown housing funds, while two council members raised concerns about transparency and the city's overall business climate.
   

3. What Missoula's homelessness response looks like one year after Johnson Street shelter closure (montanafreepress.org) — Missoula is still feeling the loss of the Johnson Street emergency shelter, with the Poverello Center often full, more people camping outside, and outreach teams stretched thin. Local officials and service providers describe shifting resources to places like the Watershed Navigation Center, grappling with camping restrictions, and searching for funding and operators for transitional housing as demand and complexity of needs continue to rise.
   

4. USPS set to remove Missoula mail sorting machine (fairfieldsuntimes.com) — Missoula's main mail processing facility is slated to lose a high-capacity sorting machine after the new year, raising concerns among postal workers about future staffing and service. Union leaders fear the move could be a step toward shifting more sorting to Spokane, though USPS insists service standards and jobs will not be affected. Officials say the change is meant to streamline maintenance and operations.
   

5. Hellgate soccer sweeps Butte thanks to flurry of goals (nbcmontana.com) — Missoula's Hellgate Knights soccer teams stayed hot, with both the girls and boys dominating Butte and setting up key home and local matches. The girls rolled 10-0 while the boys remained unbeaten and unscored upon this season. Next up, Hellgate hosts Glacier in Missoula, and Butte returns to town to face Big Sky at Fort Missoula.
