1. Montana County No. 57? Northeastern Missoula Residents Push to Form New County (matr.net) — Rural residents in northeastern Missoula County are pushing to break away and form a new "County No. 57," arguing they need a closer, more responsive local government than what they get from the distant Missoula county seat. Organizers from communities like Seeley Lake and Condon are fundraising, posting signs, and meeting with county officials as both sides explore service options and long-term implications.
   

2. City of Missoula looking to amend zoning code to better define data centers (kpax.com) — Missoula city leaders are moving toward a zoning code change that would clearly define and regulate standalone data centers, with a final council vote set for Oct. 5. The proposal follows the scrapped Bonner project and a county moratorium, and has some local tech entrepreneurs worried it could make expanding AI and IT businesses in Missoula much harder.
   

3. Homecoming week underway at University of Montana (nbcmontana.com) — Homecoming week is in full swing at the University of Montana, bringing thousands of alumni back to enjoy crisp Missoula fall weather and long-standing campus traditions. From Tuesday's Hello Walk and pep rally to Saturday's parade, alumni tailgate, and Griz game against Northern Colorado, locals are invited to join a packed schedule of celebrations around town.
   

4. Griz set for Homecoming clash with Northern Colorado (nbcmontana.com) — Missoula football fans can look forward to Saturday's Homecoming game at Washington-Grizzly Stadium, where the No. 5 Montana Grizzlies host Northern Colorado at 2 p.m. After a huge road win and record-setting rushing performance, coaches are urging focus as a full day of Homecoming festivities, including a 10 a.m. parade, brings extra energy to town.
   

5. Missoula's Montana Knife Co. lands on Inc. 5000 list (missoulacurrent.com) — A Missoula-based company, Montana Knife Co., has cracked the Inc. 5000 list for the first time, ranking No. 508 thanks to 680% growth since 2020. The fast-growing knife maker now employs about 130 people near the Wye, drawing national attention while expanding manufacturing jobs and showcasing Missoula-made products nationwide.
