North Platte High School placed in SECURE, Alliance High School evacuated after threats (ruralradio.com) — Alliance High School was locked down and then evacuated Monday after a bomb threat, while all other Alliance Public Schools were briefly placed on hold as a precaution. Police say the threat appears likely not credible, but they’re actively investigating and working with school officials to keep students, staff, and the community safe. 
2. Three students participate in Nebraska INBRE program (csc.edu) — An Alliance student, Sonya Behrends, is one of three Chadron State College participants selected for Nebraska’s prestigious INBRE biomedical research program, giving her paid summer lab experience at UNL. Her work on potential cancer and antiviral drugs could launch a future biochemistry career, while fellow students from Scottsbluff pursue cancer-related research and explore graduate-level lab work.
3. Local athletes advance to state with strong performances at B-6 track and field meet (knopnews2.com) — Alliance just hosted the District B-6 track and field meet, where the hometown team placed mid-pack against strong competition from schools like Chadron, Gothenburg and Scottsbluff. Several athletes from around the region punched their tickets to next week’s state championships in Omaha after standout performances on the Alliance track.
4. Obituary Mary A Rust (alliancetimes.com) — Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Mary A. Rust at the Eagles in Alliance on July 1, 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m. Mary, who worked 35 years at Dinklage Feedyard before retiring, passed away April 30 at Box Butte General Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.
