• Free meals for children available through Summer Food Program in central Nebraska (kgfw.com) — Families in Cozad can get free breakfast and lunch for kids ages 1–18 all summer at Cozad High School, 1710 Meridian Ave, every day from June 1 through July 31. The statewide Summer Food Service Program also offers similar open sites in nearby Dawson County communities like Gothenburg, Lexington, and Overton, with varying dates and meal times. 
• UNMC Celebrates More Than 1,000 Graduates at Commencement Ceremonies (midwestmedicaledition.com) — Cozad is represented in this year’s University of Nebraska Medical Center commencement, with local resident Alyssa Kolbo earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Kearney division. The long list of more than 1,000 graduates highlights Nebraskans from communities across the state who completed nursing, dentistry, medicine, and allied health degrees in May ceremonies.
• Nebraska Wonders Which Is Riskier: The Fires It Starts, or the Fires It Fights (goodmenproject.com) — A recent Cottonwood Fire near Cozad put local volunteer firefighters and ranchers on the front lines of a fast-moving blaze in the Loess Canyons. Their use of prescribed back burns helped stop the fire, even as Nebraska debates whether controlled burns are worth the risk amid worsening wildfires and changing climate conditions.
