• Public Notice: Ogallala Ground Water Contamination Superfund Site; Ogallala, Keith County, Nebraska (epa.gov) — Federal regulators have finished a five-year review of the Ogallala Ground Water Contamination Superfund site and say the cleanup remains protective for now, but more data are needed. Over the next two years, EPA will collect additional groundwater and indoor air samples around Ogallala and update its health risk assessment, with a full protectiveness decision expected by September 2028. 
• Market Wrap-Up: Friday, Oct. 2 (wlj.net) — Ogallala producers saw strong prices at Thursday’s Ogallala Livestock sale, where 2,307 head moved and benchmark 788‑pound steers averaged about $358.59. The broader Friday market report notes lower cattle futures but active cash trade, giving Ogallala-area ranchers and feeders a clear snapshot of how their local auction compared with Kansas, Texas and national trends.
• Groundwater levels, nitrates raise NRD worries in southern Keith County (omaha.com) — Groundwater levels south and southeast of Ogallala have dropped as much as 12% since 2008, and local monitoring wells are also showing concerning nitrate levels. The Twin Platte NRD is weighing new rules like fall fertilizer bans and cost-share help for rural reverse-osmosis systems, which could directly affect how Ogallala-area farmers and rural residents manage their water.
