Here are the top three stories in Las Vegas today:
- An overnight fire in northwest Las Vegas has displaced seven adults, four children, and three dogs; three people have also been hospitalized. Around 3:00 a.m. on Jun. 17, the garage area of a two-story home on Crystal Tower Street was ablaze, with two cars in the driveway also on fire. Two residents of the home as well as a firefighter on the scene were taken to the hospital. (Fox 5 Las Vegas)
- The City of Las Vegas unveiled a solar-powered art installation in the Arts District on Thursday. "Emergent" features a solar panel at the top to collect energy during the day, with interior LED lights being activated at night. The piece, commissioned by the city, was created by local artists Yasmina Chavez and Javier Sanchez. (News3LV)
- The Injured Police Officers Fund (IPOF) will host a cookout fundraiser next week for the family of a fallen Las Vegas detective. The barbecue cookout will be held at Nevada Coin Mart on Wednesday, Jun. 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the family of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Detective Justin Terry, who died on duty in a crash on US 95.
