Here are the top three stories today in Las Vegas:

  1. The Clark County Department of Environment and Sustainability has issued an air quality advisory from Apr. 1 through Sep. 30. As poor air quality warnings in the Las Vegas metro area become increasingly frequent amid drought and wildfires in the West, the department made the advisory in an effort to be more proactive this season. Recent years have seen more than a dozen days with wildfire smoke advisories; much of the impact has come from hundreds of miles away in northern Nevada, California, and Arizona. (U.S. News)
  2. An officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has been arraigned on federal charges stemming from three casino robberies. 33-year-old Caleb Mitchell Rogers was arrested on Feb. 27 after allegedly stealing nearly $79,000 from a Rio hotel-casino cashier, then threatening to shoot a security officer who pursued him. Rogers' trial has been scheduled for May 23. (Department of Justice)
  3. As the cost of gas and goods continues to rise, a Las Vegas discount clothing store is slashing its prices. This past weekend, Gems 4U Discount Clothing Store kicked off its first sidewalk sale and giveaway, an event that will take place every Saturday and Sunday. All store proceeds go toward a youth job training program through the United Way of Southern Nevada. (Fox 5 Las Vegas)
