Clark County Schools Faces $60 Million Shortfall, Wants Your Opinion

The district is looking to identify around $80 million in cuts. Layoffs are a possibility.

The Clark County School District, facing a $52 million budget deficit, is looking for help figuring out what to cut. The district has put together a suvey listing several options and hopes that people take the time to participate.

To make matters worse, the district says they rea;;y need to identify around $80 millions in cuts.

The large deficit stems from a combination of a large arbitration award giving raises to administrators and state revenue that was lower than expected.

So, the district has created an online survey for parents and others to take.

The district has several options they want people to consider, including:

  • Eliminating games from all sporting seasons - one game of football, two games of other sports, that will save $250,000;
  • Reducing adult education program for a savings of $400,000; and
  • Close all schools and buildings over the holidays, for a savings of $14 million.

The survey remains live through September 10.
