🌱 Cyclist Killed In Strip Crash + Nursing Students Provide Aid

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Las Vegas.

Happy Monday, Las Vegas! Here's everything worth knowing today in Las Vegas.

First, today's weather:

Sunshine. High: 64 Low: 42.

Here are the top 3 stories in Las Vegas today:

  1. This past Saturday night, a motorcyclist was killed on the Strip following a car crash. The incident occurred in the evening at around 7:20 p.m. near the 2600 block of Las Vegas Boulevard South. The crash took place at an uncontrolled intersection at the entrance of a nearby hotel. The motorists involved in the crash were not impaired; however, the motorcyclist passed away at the University Medical Center. (Las Vegas Review-Journal)
  2. Due to the staffing shortages across Las Vegas hospitals, nursing students have stepped up to the plate. Many nursing students like Acacia Herndon have not finished their schooling; however, they have started to provide some much-needed assistance at hospitals during the stressful COVID-19 pandemic. These students will float between departments and accomplish entry-level tasks to help free up certified nurses who are needed elsewhere. (Elko Daily Free Press)
  3. The summers in Las Vegas are getting hotter and longer. However, this extreme heat is not only experienced in the summer; it is an all year issue. Last summer was one of the hottest summers to date according to the National Weather Service. In response to the heat, an organized and coordinated effort of more than 50 local government agencies, private industries, utilities, and other community resources have committed to addressing the issue. This collaborative group is going to investigate the impacts of extreme heat on the residents and visitors of the community. (Las Vegas Sun)
